Woman Killed In Truck-Car Crash On I-270
By: Joel Currier
"A woman was killed during this morning's rush-hour commute when a tractor-trailer struck her car from behind on Interstate 270, authorities said.
Five vehicles were involved in the crash shortly after 8 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Interstate 270 near the Page Avenue exit, said Cpl. Al Nothum of the Missouri Highway Patrol.
Traffic was congested when the tractor trailer struck the woman's Ford Focus and pushed it into a pickup truck in front of her. The pickup then struck a Pontiac Grand Prix that overturned and hit a fifth vehicle in front of it.
The Ford burst into flames and burned the woman driver inside, Nothum said. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Louis County Medical Examiner.
Her identity will not be released until family members are notified later today.
Other motorists involved suffered minor to moderate injuries, Nothum said. Police and firefighters were still at the accident scene shortly before noon."
