Major Highways in West Virginia include: I-64, I-68, I-70, I-77 and I-79.

Interstate 64: I-64 totals 945 miles with its eastern terminus in Portsmouth, VA and its western terminus in St. Louis, MO. Charleston and Huntington are along WV's 183 mile portion of I-64.

Interstate 68: I-68 spans 112 miles through West Virginia and Maryland. WV accounts for 32 miles. Morgantown is WV's only major city along I-68 and is also the western terminus.

Interstate 70: I-70's eastern terminus is Baltimore, MD and its western end is in Cove Ft, Utah. Wheeling is WV's only major city along the state's 15 mile portion of I-70.

Interstate 77: I-77 covers 187 miles in West Virginia. Charleston, WV is situated along the I-77 route.

Interstate 79: WV contains 152 miles of the entire 339 miles long I-79. Charleston and Morgantown are among the cities along the I-79 route.

West Virginia, the "Mountain State", shares its borders with Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Located in the heart of the Appalachian Highlands, West Virginia is the only U.S. state in which all areas are mountainous.

The 2000 Census recorded more than 1.8 million in WV. Charleston, the state capital, accounted for 53,421 of the population. Charleston is the largest city in WV and serves as the seat of Kanawha County. This gateway city reflects the area's heritage through its preserved historical sites and cultural celebrations.
