Nanticoke, Pennsylvania stakes claim to 3.4 square miles of scenic Luzerne County.  Situated between the Susquehanna River to the north and the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the south, Nanticoke residents and visitors enjoy exquisite views of Pennsylvania's natural splendor.Originally home to the Nanticoke Indians, the tribe also known as the seashore settlers, utilized waterpower from nearby falls to help establish the area.

Nanticoke, PA was the birthplace of Congressman Paul E. Kanjorski, also known as the Dictator of Nanticoke and is the initial site where Samuel H. Kress opened his first store. S.H. Kress and Company eventually became a successful chain.  Patriots Square serves as the center of community celebrations with the Nanticoke Music Fest held there each June and the Christmas in the Park program.

Up until the mid-20th century, Nanticoke, Pennsylvania thrived as a major coal center of the region. Today, Nanticoke is primarily a residential city with some light manufacturing development.  Currently, the Nanticoke economy is on a decline; however, several strategic plans are in the works to correct the problem.  Despite the financial strains within Nanticoke, PA, residents have access to ample employment in nearby cities.  Booming economic centers such as Wilkes-Barre (6 miles from Nanticoke) and Allentown (43 miles away) are close by.

In 2000, the median household income in Nanticoke was $26,169, while the median family income was $35,444.  Nanticoke's per capita income was $15,348. According to data reported to the 2000 Census, Nanticoke, PA was home to nearly 11,000 residents.  The population has seen fluctuations that range from 500 residents in 1800, to its peak of 26,000 in the 1930's.  Luzerne County has a population of more than 319,000.

Nanticoke, Pennsylvania provides residents with a well-kept city that experiences a moderate climate and very low rate of crime.  There is a wide range of housing options with reasonable asking prices and an excellent school system.  Nanticoke's locally famous Kosciuszko Street is the only U.S. road featuring learning facilities that cover all levels of education.  A student in Nanticoke can potentially begin school and graduate from college on the same street.  Schools include three elementary facilities, a middle school, a senior high school and Luzerne County Community College.  Elsewhere in Nanticoke, PA exists a private K-8 school with 3 locations and 360 students, operated by the five Roman Catholic Parishes of Greater Nanticoke.  Overall, Nanticoke residents enjoy an excellent quality of life.
