France honors Daniel W. Munley for Sept. 11 Work
Daniel W. Munley was honored by the French government in March, 2004 for his volunteer legal work on behalf of the family of a man from France who was killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
Mr. Munley represented the family of Jerome Robert Lohez, who worked on the 26th Floor of one of the World Trade Center towers.
His widow, Dening Lohez, was awarded $3.9 million from the Victim Compensation Fund.
"Following the tragic event, many Americans were looking for ways to help," Munley said in a statement. "I felt this program was a way for me to take my abilities and apply them."
Dan Munley is a volunteer in the American Trial Lawyers Association's Trial Lawyers Care Program, which was established for attorneys to provide free representation to victims of the 2001 terror attacks.
Mr. Munley was honored Wednesday during a ceremony at the French Consulate in New York City. A commemorative plaque honoring five French victims of the attacks was unveiled during the ceremony.
Lohez was a senior applications architect at NexxtHealth, a subsidiary of Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
He had just returned from visiting his family in France when he was killed in the attacks, according to Pennsylvania-based Benchmark Advertising, which provides publicity for Munley, Munley & Cartwright.
Munley, Munley & Cartwright, also is providing free representation to five other families in connection with the World Trade Center attacks.
With part of the compensation proceeds, Dening Lohez has established a scholarship fund in her husband's name for French students studying at the Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey.
She and her late husband met at the school while obtaining their degrees
