Woman awarded $350K for injuries in car accident
The Pocono Record, June 19, 2006
A Shavertown woman was awarded $350,000 for injuries she suffered when the vehicle she and her husband were driving was pushed into a curb by another vehicle near Marshalls Creek in 2001. Nicole D'Angelo veered into the Lawsons' lane of travel and pushed their vehicle into a curb.
The verdict compensates Dorothy Lawson, 80, for stomach and other injuries received on Aug. 24, 2001 on Route 209, as well as for the subsequent loss of consortium from her husband, according to records. Lawson spent five days in Pocono Medical Center. Her husband, William Lawson, 84, was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital, where he spent a week. His spinal and cervical injuries led to him wearing a neck brace for more than two years. His case was previously settled for all insurance proceeds.
The case was tried before Senior Judge Peter O'Brien, with Attorney Matthew Cartwright representing Lawson and insurance trial counsel G. Christopher Parrish representing the defendant.
