September 11th Victims Compensation Fund for injured rescuer - volunteer services by Marion Munley
Marion Munley represented (pro bono) a 34 year old rescue and recovery worker who worked at Ground Zero for six months.
The worker, a union steel burner, was sent to Ground Zero on September 12, 2001 to assist in the recovery efforts. The workers were assured that the air was safe. Unfortunately, that was not the case, and the worker developed lung problems including spitting up blood.
After numerous tests, he has been told that he needs a lung transplant in order to live.
The client who has not worked since March 2002 is permanently disabled due to the lung condition.
Munley, Munley & Cartwright, PC filed a claim on his behalf under the Victim's Compensation Fund. A hearing was held, and the worker was awarded $2.74 million.
