Seventeen passengers were killed in the Spring of 2000 when a plane crashed in Bear Creek Township in Luzerne County. The plane was a charter flight operated by Executive Airlines. It ran out of fuel on the flight from Atlantic City to Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Airport, causing the crash. The fuel gauges were determined to be defective, and the pilots ignored other warnings of low fuel.
$17.5 Million: Jury verdict in teens' death.
A Lackawanna County jury returned a verdict of $17.5 million Thursday in favor of the parents of five Midvalley teenagers who died in a single-car accident in 1981 but the amounts they actually receive probably will depend on further court action. Defendants in the case were Frank and Antoinette Lukasik, 1165 Freida St., Dickson City, parents and administrators of the estate of Anthony Lukasik 17, driver of the car in which he and seven other teenagers were killed on March 6, 1981, in Throop.
$12 million: Million Forklift accident victim who lost her leg.
On December 30, 2005, the Court of Common Pleas of Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania awarded our client, Suzanne Bombar, damages just over $12,000,000. Ms. Bombar, who lost her leg in a forklift accident, won the amount against West American Insurance Company, an Ohio Casualty subsidiary, which was found in bad faith in insurance practices. Judge Carmen D. Minora handed down the award. Attorney Robert W. Munley handled the case for Ms. Bombar.
$7.5 Million: Bench verdict to a child rendered paraplegic as a result of an accident.
$6.9 Million: Settlement when a garbage truck rammed a car
An East Stroudsburg family has received a $6.9 million settlement in a lawsuit filed in 1987 after a garbage truck rammed into the vehicle in which they were riding in Chinchilla, killing the couple's five-year-old son and critically injuring their eight-year-old daughter. The award represents the largest known civil settlement in the history of Lackawanna County Court.
$6.5 Million: Settlement to a man brain injured by a garbage truck
A $6.5 million settlement has been made involving a crash more than two years ago in which a Dickson City woman died and her husband was seriously injured. The wreck occurred when a tractor-trailer hauling garbage here from New Jersey struck their pickup truck when exiting the North Scranton Expressway.
$5 Million: Settlement for Lackawanna County Woman in Medical Negligence Case
A confidential settlement has been reached in a complex medical negligence case pending in the Lackawanna County Court of Common Pleas. Attorney Matthew A. Cartwright, of Munley, Munley & Cartwright, Scranton, announced the $5,000,000 settlement on behalf of a woman who had been misdiagnosed by several physicians and hospital emergency rooms.
$5 Million: Business Torts Litigation Settlement Announced
Attorney Matthew A. Cartwright, of Munley, Munley & Cartwright, Scranton and Wilkes-Barre, has announced a global resolution in a complex, protracted business litigation case involving claims of breach of fiduciary duty, negligence, misrepresentation and breach of contract. According to Mr. Cartwright, the settlement's terms require that the identities of the parties remain confidential. Cartwright headed a team of six lawyers from five separate law firms in prosecuting the action, which settled after several years of extensive litigation, and negotiation.
$4.3 Million: Jury award for a motorcycle rider.
It took a Lackawanna County jury less than two hours to award $4.3 million to a Lake Ariel man who suffered severe injuries when the motorcycle he was driving struck a piece of timber lying on the North Scranton Expressway. Scott Wilson, RD 6, Box 26, Lake Ariel, was driving his 1980 BMW motorcycle south on the expressway about a mile north of the North Main Avenue exit ramp when he struck a wooden timber, measuring 6' x 5" x 3" which had been lying across the southbound passing lane. The 32-year-old man was thrown from the vehicle and suffered spinal fractures with spinal cord injury resulting in permanent paraplegia.

Daniel W. Munley was honored by the French government in March, 2004 for his volunteer legal work on behalf of the family of a man from France who was killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
$3.5 Million: Settlement for a 76 year old woman hit by a drunk driver
A White Haven woman who was injured by a six-time drunken driver has been awarded $3.5 million in a settlement of a lawsuit, an attorney said Friday.

$2.8 Million: Settlement for a boy killed by a truck
A $2.8 million settlement was reached Wednesday in a wrongful death action brought by the family of a 15-year-old Throop boy killed in 1985 when a tractor-trailer ran over him in full view of his parents and sister while vacationing in Connecticut. Edward Kolatis Jr., 910 Franko St., died instantly when a rig went out of control off Interstate Route 84, struck at least three cars parked at a rest stop and one of which hit him, hurling him into the air.

$2 Million: Settlement from Foreign Medical Device Manufacturer
Munley, Munley & Cartwright, P.C., Plains, has announced the resolution of a civil action which a client of the firm brought against a major foreign medical device manufacturer. The claim resulted in protracted, complex litigation, and ended on a settlement pursuant to the terms of which the patient received a cash settlement of $2,000,000.
$1.8 Million: Jury award for a woman who lost her leg in a forklift accident
A Lackawanna County jury awarded $1.8 million to an Olyphant woman who lost her left leg after being hit by a forklift at work. Susanne Bombar, was standing in the dock area of Lord Label talking to a co-worker when the lift came through a plastic curtain and struck her on March 15, 1995.
$1.8 Million: Settlement for tractor trailer accident that caused a woman's death
Attorneys Dan Munley and Marion Munley obtained a $1.8 million settlement for the family of a woman in a wrongful death and survival action. A tractor trailer driver violated several statutes when he failed to slow for an intersection. He had just exited Interstate Route 180 and entered State Route 54 near Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The driver of the tractor trailer was trying to pass another truck on its right as that truck was waiting to make a left. He pulled around the truck on the right and entered the intersection where he broadsided our client's Jeep. She is survived by her husband and daughter.

Mr. Hildebrand's Subaru crossed into the oncoming lane and directly into the path of Ms. Christman.
$1.3 Million: Jury verdict for Clarks Summit woman in tractor-trailer accident
Wilkes-Barre -- Wednesday, February 11, 2004 -- a federal jury in Wilkes-Barre yesterday took about three hours to award Tara Koval Mason, of Clarks Summit, $1,300,000.00 for injuries she sustained in a May, 2001 accident on Interstate 81. Both vehicles were traveling northbound near the Avoca exit when the defendant tractor trailer driver, driving a Sheehy Transport 18-wheeler, suddenly changed lanes into the left lane where Ms. Koval Mason was driving.

$1 Million: Jury award for crush injury to trucker's foot
A federal jury Monday night awarded a Wilkes-Barre man $1 million for injuries suffered at a warehouse two years ago. Alan Cirko, 40, was delivering goods to the Wakefern warehouse in Elizabeth, N.J. when another worker operating a pallet jack ran over his foot with the equipment, said one of Cirko's attorneys, Marion Munley.
