Interstate
80:
I-80 in
New Jersey
runs approximately 69 miles. I-80
enters the
state at the Delaware Water Gap and continues to its eastern terminus at
Interstate 95 in Teaneck.
I-95 continues
east from the end of I-80 to the George Washington Bridge for access to
New York City; From I-80 the Interstate 280 spur feeds the Holland
Tunnel.
Across the US,
I-80 is a major coast to coast Interstate Highway running from the San
Francisco Bay Area east to New York City area via a short stretch of
I-95.
Considering the monumental roadway that I-80 has become, its inception
wasn?t met with much controversy, neither financial nor environmental.
While it does have local access and interchanges, I-80?s
run through northern New Jersey mostly serves those arriving from out of
state with New York City and points north being the final destination.
I-80?s
spur route, I-287, has an opposite history, being frought with local
politics and struggles to finish the roadway. I-287 will provide
locals with an important artery linking many north Jersey cities in its
path.
