Motorcycle Rider Killed on West Pages is Identified

By: Charlie White

"A motorcyclist died Tuesday evening at University Hospital after he was hit by a car in southwestern Louisville.

David M. Smother, 59, of the 5500 block of West Pages Lane, was riding his 1982 Harley Davidson Sportster west on West Pages about 6:45 p.m. when the accident occurred, said Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Jack Arnold.

A woman in a Toyota Camry was headed east in the 6000 block of West Pages and turned left at the Devonshire Drive intersection, hitting the motorcycle and knocking Smother off, said Officer Dwight Mitchell, a Louisville Metro Police spokesman.

Emergency workers took Smother to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 7:29 p.m.

The driver of the Camry, who told police she did not see the man on the motorcycle, had not been charged, Mitchell said.

Police do not believe speed was a factor in the accident, but they were still investigating, Mitchell said.

An autopsy Wednesday morning will determine the cause of Smother's death.

Smother was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, Arnold said."
