Mercy Hospital of Scranton is a member of Mercy Health Partners, a health care system in Northeast Pennsylvania that has been serving residents of Lackawanna and Luzerne counties for more than 100 years. As an acute care hospital specializing in tertiary, cardiovascular, oncology and orthopedic care, Mercy Hospital focuses on health care for the financially challenged and underserved. The facility is licensed for 262 beds, all in private rooms, which provide patients with a better health care experience, including less risk of infections, more restful sleep and lower stress.
Mercy Hospital features a wide range of advanced medical features and treatment:
- A state-of-the-art Cancer Center offers surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment options in a multidisciplinary, clinically advanced, personalized setting.
- The Mercy Diabetes Center features a laboratory with on-site Hemoglobin and A1c testing; physical and occupational therapy; an exercise program; vascular screening and testing; cardiac testing; neurology testing; a wound care center and podiatry.
- Advanced Imaging Services includes radiology, CT Scan, nuclear medicine, digital mammography, ultrasound, DEXA bone density, on-site MRI and MRT, and Special procedures/Interventional radiography.
- Mercy Hospital is the first hospital in the Mid-Atlantic to acquire a computerized surgical robot named the da Vinci Surgical System.
Mercy Hospital treats 178,000 outpatients each year and admits 10,000 patients into the hospital. About 32,000 patients visit the emergency room. Each year, 200,000 cardiac procedures and 45,000 cardiac catheterizations are performed at the hospital.
There are more than 1,000 employees on staff, including more than 60 physicians in more than 40 specialties and 302 nurses. Specialized services include Cancer Center, Cardiac Care, Diabetes Management, Emergency Services, Healthquest, Hip and Knee Orthopaedic Institute, Home Health, Hospice, Imaging, Laboratory, Outpatient Care, Rehabilitation Center, Skilled Nursing, Special Care and Wound Care Center.
Mercy Hospital has received numerous awards and accolades for its services and nursing care. In March of 2010, HealthGrades Inc. ranked Mercy Hospital's patient outcomes among the top 5 percent of medical facilities nationwide. Thomas Reuters named Mercy Hospital one of the top 100 hospitals in the nation for four years in a row. The Mercy Cancer Center recently received the Commission on Cancer's Outstanding Achievement award for providing quality care to patients.
