Interstate 83: Interstate 83 (abbreviated I-83) is an interstate Highway serving two states. The entire route is a direct replacement of US 111, a former spur of US 11.

Interstate 83 begins its 37 mile northern journey through Maryland at Fayette St. in downtown Baltimore, just east of the central business district.

North of Fayette St., I-83 becomes an elevated four- and six-lane freeway, known locally as the Jones Falls Expressway or JFX. The road parallels its namesake river, the Jones Falls, which flows directly underneath the freeway.

After leaving Baltimore and heading north, I-83 interchanges with I-695, the famous Baltimore Beltway. Past that interchange, I-83 is known as the Baltimore-Harrisburg Expressway. Running due north, I-83 passes to the west of Timonium and Cockeysville, Maryland.

I-83 enters the rural parts of Baltimore County just north of Hunt Valley, MD. Interstate 83 eventually crosses the Mason-Dixon Line into Pennsylvania 25 miles north of Baltimore in a Maryland town that is actually called "Maryland Line".
