Despite years of progress, the glass ceiling phenomenon continues to exist in the 21st century. The stereotypical perceptions of women having more work/family conflict than men continue to influence the opportunities for promotion. Studies clearly demonstrate women are treated differently in the workplace, due to these perceived conflicts. This not only results in fewer women in senior management positions, but also lack of equal salary. The importance of gender diversity is not just a gesture of demonstrating acceptance and tolerance. It is also a way of utilizing the resources obtained through diverse employment practices. Companies with benefits and policies that support working families position themselves better, through a richer talent pool that will have a positive effect on the clients and customers they want to attract.
