"WASHINGTON TWP. -- A Maryland man is in critical condition after being crushed
between a loading dock and a tractor-trailer, police said yesterday.
Clifford Anderson, 60, of Hagerstown, Md., was standing next to the loading dock
at the Sleepy's Mattress warehouse on Applegate Drive talking to someone at a
door near the dock at about 6:30 a.m. Saturday, said Lieutenant Dominic Boterri,
spokesman for the Washington Township police.
At the same time, a tractor-trailer driven by Willie Anderson, III, 31, of
Raleigh, N.C. was being backed up towards the loading dock.
The trailer crushed the elder Anderson, no relation, between the rear of the
trailer and the dock, severely injuring him, Boterri said.
"The driver had to be told to move the rig forward because he had no idea what
had happened," Boterri said.
The injured Anderson was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital but was rushed to
the trauma center at Capital Health System at Fuld.
"He was initially listed in grave condition and underwent emergency surgery,"
Boterri said.
Anderson is currently listed in critical condition at the hospital's trauma
center.
The incident is still under investigation, but by all indications, it will be
ruled an accident and no summonses have been issued, Boterri said."
