"BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) _ An overturned tractor-trailer injured two people and forced southbound Interstate 81 to close for several hours Saturday, snarling traffic.

The accident occurred at 12:30 p.m. near the state Route 17 interchange in northern Binghamton, Sgt. Becky Sutliff said. Eastbound traffic on Route 17 was also rerouted for several hours.

The tractor trailer, driven by Thomas McCarthy, 43, of Syracuse, spilled part of its cargo _ two rolls of aluminum _ into the road when it rolled on its side and skidded more than 200 feet around a curve.

McCarthy and his passenger, Deborah Kainer, 39, were treated at Wilson Regional Medical Center for minor injuries and released.

State police issued McCarthy a ticket for loading his truck over the legal weight limit.
