In 1897, 15 women in Scranton, PA came together, determined to do something to improve the health of the members of their community. They planted the seeds for the institution that was to become the Community Medical Center. More than 100 years later, the hospital offers a wide array of high quality health care services to the residents of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
State-of-the-art advanced technological medical services at Community Medical Center include:
- The region's first catheterization lab with 3D reconstruction capabilities, including leading edge capabilities in cardiac imaging and peripheral angiography and a multidimensional view of the patient's anatomy.
- Other state-of-the-art cardiac treatments including angioplasty, stenting, pacemakers, defibrillators, open heart surgery and vascular surgery.
- A Level II Trauma Center that provides immediate care from a highly skilled team of trauma professionals.
- A Vascular Lab that uses the most advanced non-invasive technology available, including color-flow duplex Ultrasound with 3-D imaging.
Other services at the hospital include Behavioral Health, Cardiac Care, Diabetes Support, General Medicine, MRI, Neuroscience Institute, New Steps Joint Replacement, Pain Clinic, Physical Therapy, Ronald McDonald House, Scranton Temple Residency Hospitalist Program, Trauma & Emergency, Vascular Lab and VNA Hospice.
More than 1,500 professionals and staff are employed by the hospital, including 345 nurses. Each year, 94,000 patients receive outpatient services at the Community Medical Center, 3,700 patients are admitted to the hospital and 36,000 patients visit the emergency room.
Other facilities associated with the Community Medical Center include: Mountain View Care Center, a 180-bed long term facility; Abington Physical Therapy; Green Ridge Physical Therapy; Ronald McDonald House, offering temporary housing to the family of children who are patients at Community Medical Center; NorthEast Cancer Institute, a community-based agency focused on cancer research, education and survivorship and VNA Hospice, serving the terminally ill.
