Pennsylvania Lawyers - Best Lawyers in America - PA AttorneysThe law firm of Munley, Munley & Cartwright does in fact primarily exist to handle legal issues for residents and families of Lackawanna, Luzerne and many surrounding counties but a big part of the firms philosophy is to give back to the community in a variety of committed ways through participation in many local, state and national events, charities and fund raising organizations.

The family of lawyers and their support staff live and carry out their lives in our community and therefore have a vested interest in the future and direction taken by our communities. We try to be sensitive to the needs of the community, we all love, with hope that what we contribute to through these activities will better the quality of all of our lives and Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Munley, Munley & Cartwright, P.C. is proud to be this year's host family for the 19th annual Family-to-Family Thanksgiving Food Basket Program. The program is an annual project that provides Thanksgiving dinners to needy families. We have been involved with the program for 15 years.

We feel a strong community involvement by participating in such events as a very special sponsorship of The Friends of the Poor and Sister Adrian Barrett. Throughout the years the firm of Munley, Munley & Cartwright, particularly through Attorney Bob and Mrs. Bernadine Munley, have been involved in many ways and numerous activities with Sr. Adrian, who was featured in an issue of Good Times for Seniors, marking an anniversary of the Thanksgiving dinner she organizes each year with the help of many volunteers. The dinner is part of a three fold Thanksgiving celebration that begins with an interfaith prayer service at noon the Tuesday before Thanksgiving at St. Peter's Cathedral in Scranton. The prayer is followed by a Thanksgiving dinner at the Scranton Cultural Center for hundred of senior citizens, single adults, and homeless persons. The Family to Family Thanksgiving Food Campaign the day before Thanksgiving provides low income families with holiday food baskets. Scores of volunteers, both young and old, and many generous donors make these programs possible each year.

In addition to the Thanksgiving Holiday dinner sponsorships, the firm of Munley, Munley & Cartwright further enjoys contributing to Christmas holiday festivities by volunteering hours and contributions in whatever way Sr. Adrian Barrett asks us to contribute.

Throughout the years the Munley firm has contributed to the Friends of the Poor in other ways by helping contribute to underwrite, along with a variety of private agencies to ensure the trip free from expense, over 300 children and adult volunteers traveling to the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. with Sr. Barrett's Scranton Project Hope. It was composed of children whose ages ranged from preschoolers to teenagers from low-income families. Project Hopes helps to make them realize how important it is for Americans to learn about and participate actively in our democracy, both as citizens and as leaders.

A number of the firm's staff annually join the Race For The Cure? for the Susan Komen Foundation, usually on a glorious Fall Saturday morning. Atty. Marion Munley has been running the race for a few years clocking a respectable time for the 5K run. Many staff members and our clients have had their lives affected by breast cancer suffered by a friend, family member and even staff members. It is an exhilarating experience to participate in the walk, hearing the church bells ringing in downtown Scranton from St. Peter's Cathedral while realizing you are in the center of this mile long group of people walking to inspire the cure for this insidious disease that still takes so many lives unnecessarily. Everyone should just do it once.

C.A.S.U.A.L Day (Colon Cancer Awareness Saves Unlimited Adult Lives) started out as an event primarily in Lackawanna County but has now spread to all six surrounding counties. Over 150 businesses, of which Munley, Munley & Cartwright was a sponsor, and 6,500 individuals participated by purchasing and wearing either t-shirts or pins. Proclamations by all six County Commissioners Offices gave additional support and recognition. C.A.S.U.A.L. Day is growing and Munley, Munley & Cartwright have been proud to be part of this critical awareness effort in Northeast Pennsylvania. C.A.S.U.A.L. Day is generally celebrated in March, Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

Marion in SteamtownMarion Munley has participated in the Northeastern Pennsylvania Steamtown Marathon. This race, which is 26.20 miles, is USATF-certified and a Boston Marathon qualifier. A good part of the race is downhill with a 955' drop in elevation from start to finish. The magazine, "Runner's World", has named Steamtown, "One of the 10 fastest marathon courses in the U.S."

Atty. Matthew A. Cartwright has been involved in Rotary Club of the Abingtons since 1987 and has served as its President and as Governor of Rotary District 7410. Northeastern Pennsylvania. More than one million business and professional leaders worldwide belong to Rotary International. One of its biggest projects is the Polio Eradication Fund Raising Campaign, designed to help rid the world of this devastating illness.

The Voluntary Recognition Luncheon for Serving Seniors, Inc. was contributed to through a sponsorship by the firm. Serving Seniors, Inc. is dedicated to improving the quality of life and care of nursing home, personal care home residents and older adults in Lackawanna County. Munley, Munley & Cartwright is proud to be affiliated with this program.

Major sponsorship of the Scranton Wilkes Barre Yankees and Komen NEPA “Breast Cancer Survivor Night” at the Lackawanna County Stadium, Scranton including the Komen Foundation Video Presentation and Creation of the Pink Survivors Living Ribbon. Wearing of the trademark pink survivor NEPA Race for the Cure? T-Shirt entitled the wearer to a free ticket to the game and festivities being held in their honor.

Munley, Munley & Cartwright has been a golf hole sponsor for such events as the Partnership for Clarks Summit State Hospital, the Lackawanna Bar Association Annual Golf Outing, Northeastern Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers, Lackawanna College annual golfing event and another in Honesdale.

Munley, Munley and Cartwright's Senior Pre-Litigation Paralegal, Janie Lamberton is a shining example of how our firm tries to make a difference, both in the courtroom and in the community.

A pet lover and owner of five rescued dogs, Janie has been a long time volunteer with organizations like the Humane Society of Lackawanna County, the Dessin Animal Shelter, Dogs of Appalachian Welfare Group, Appalachian Animal Rescue Friends, Circle of Light and Tracey's Hope. Janie and two of her own dogs, Lexi and Libby, also volunteer with TDI (Therapy Dogs International, Inc.). The group visits nursing homes, hospitals, hospice facilities and even at local libraries for the children's reading program, "Children Reading to Dogs." Janie says her most rewarding experience has been sharing stories with other pet lovers about their own special friends.

In addition, Janie takes on several other responsibilities associated with animal welfare, including volunteering for shelters, rescues, and foster homes. She transports volunteers to and from shelters, and assists both local and non-local shelters with fundraising projects. Janie understands the importance of the pet-pet owner bond, that's why she works tirelessly to unite homeless pets to petless homes (or homes in need of more pets!). Her motto is "until they all have a home."

Munley, Munley and Cartwright is proud of Janie and the hard work she does both in the office and on the front lines of our community.

Deborah Lanning, receptionist in our Wilkes Barre location, volunteers through the Commission for Economic Opportunity. The CEO is an organization that helps financially strapped people and the elderly by paying for rental deposits and utility bills. They further assist in building ramps and helping underprivileged children in and out of school along with meals. The CEO also participated in the "Healing Fields" at Kirby Park by marching a United States flag in the parade and helping with the opening ceremonies by placing 5,000 flags in the park. She has helped feed people on Thanksgiving by assisting in preparing 500 meals and distributing them to the sick, shut-ins, and the elderly. Debbie and Atty. Marion Munley also represent our firm at The Hope Center Free Legal Clinic.
