Community Involvement - Pennsylvania

A big part of the firm’s philosophy is to give back to the community through participation in many local, state and national charitable events and organizations.

Our family of lawyers and our support staff have an unwavering interest in the future and direction of our communities. We are sensitive to the needs of our community and hope that our contributions and civic involvement will enhance the quality of life for all Northeastern Pennsylvania residents.

Family to Family

Munley, Munley & Cartwright is proud to be a sponsor of the annual Family-to-Family Thanksgiving Food Basket Program. Following in the footsteps of their father, Robert W. Munley, Chris and Caroline Munley take to the airwaves every November via a paid advertising schedule and ask for contributions on behalf of the program, which has served over 250,000 needy families since its inception over two decades ago.

Christmas for Needy Children

Every Christmas season, Munley, Munley & Cartwright’s team of volunteers generously give their time and money to make sure there’s a little something under the Christmas tree for needy kids in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Project Hope

Along with a variety of private agencies, the firm has underwritten expense free trips to send more than 300 children and adult volunteers to the United States Capital in Washington, D.C. in association with Scranton Project Hope. The trips are comprised of children from low-income families ranging in age from preschoolers to teenagers. Project Hope helps these youngsters realize how important it is for Americans to learn about and participate actively in our democracy, both as citizens and as leaders.

Race for the Cure

A number of the firm's staff annually put on sneakers and take to the streets to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure sponsored by Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Marion Munley has been running the race for many years and clocks a respectable 5K time, which is much admired by her co-workers. Many people in the firm have had their lives affected by breast cancer whether it was through a friend, family member, client or even personally.

C.A.S.U.A.L.

C.A.S.U.A.L. Day (Colon Cancer Awareness Saves Unlimited Adult Lives), sponsored by the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute, started out as an event primarily in Lackawanna County but has now spread to all six surrounding counties. Over 150 businesses and more than 6500 individuals participate in the event by purchasing and wearing T-shirts or pins to work on a designated Thursday in March. Proclamations by all six County Commissioners Offices give additional support and recognition. C.A.S.U.A.L. Day is growing and Munley, Munley & Cartwright is proud to be part of this critical awareness effort in Northeast Pennsylvania.

Steamtown Marathon

Runner's World magazine has named the Northeastern Pennsylvania Steamtown Marathon "one of the 10 fastest marathon courses in the U.S." A good part of the 26.2 mile marathon is downhill with a 955-foot drop in elevation from start to finish. Marion Munley has been a frequent participant in this USATF-certified and Boston Marathon qualifier.

Animal Projects

Senior Pre-Litigation Paralegal, Janie Lamberton, is a shining example of how our firm makes a difference, both in the courtroom and in the community. A pet lover and owner of five rescued dogs, Janie has been a long-time volunteer with organizations like the Humane Society of Lackawanna County, the Dessin Animal Shelter, Dogs of Appalachian Welfare Group, Appalachian Animal Rescue Friends, Circle of Light and Tracey's Hope. She also volunteers with TDI (Therapy Dogs International) visiting nursing homes, hospitals, hospice facilities and local libraries. Janie also transports volunteers to and from shelters, and assists both local and non-local shelters with fundraising projects. She works tirelessly to unite homeless pets to pet-less homes (or homes in need of more pets!). Her motto is "until they all have a home."

Deborah Lanning, receptionist in our Wilkes-Barre location, volunteers with the Commission for Economic Opportunity (CEO), an organization that helps financially-strapped Pennsylvania residents by paying for rental deposits and utility bills. The commission also assists in building ramps for the handicapped and in providing underprivileged children with meals. Deborah also helps feed people on Thanksgiving by assisting in preparing over 500 meals and distributing them to the sick, shut-in, and the elderly.

The Hope Center Attorney Marion Munley and Deborah Lanning also represent our firm at The Hope Center which
provides free legal, medical, and pastoral care to those in need.
