Allied Services Rehabilitation Hospital, an integral part of Allied HealthCare, has been serving residents of Northeast Pennsylvania with spinal cord and brain injury, concussion, stroke, musculoskeletal disorders, orthopedic conditions, chronic pain, neurological disorders and other medical conditions for more than 50 years. Allied Services arose out of a desire by community leaders and service organizations to improve services for the disabled in the 1950s. Today, Allied HealthCare is one of the nation's most diverse providers of services for the disabled, including medical rehabilitation, vocational training, home care and residential services.
Allied Services Rehabilitation Hospital offers numerous state-of-the-art, technologically advanced treatments for the medically disabled, including:
- Aquatic Therapy in a warm water pool with exercises individually designed for each patient.
- LiteGait, a partial weight bearing gait therapy that encourages and enables patients to stand up sooner and begin walking more quickly.
- BionessNESS H200 a Neuroprosthetic and Rehabilitation System (H200), an external prosthetic device, which uses surface electrodes to stimulate hand muscles that have been damaged by stroke or spinal cord injury.
- Rehabilitation Technology Program, a program designed to modify equipment and the home or office environment to accommodate an individual's disability.
- Functional Electrical Stimulation, a procedure which sends safe, controlled and comfortable bursts of electricity through the skin and muscle.
Allied Services Rehabilitation Hospital treats patients with stroke, neurological disorders, orthopedic conditions, cancer/oncology, spinal cord injuries and amputations. additional services offered at the hospital include audiology, recreational therapy, medication assessment/management, rehabilitation technology, nutritional services, rehabilitative nursing, occupational therapy, respiratory/pulmonary therapy, physical therapy, social services, psychological evaluations/services, speech pathology and cognitive therapy.
The hospital also offers evaluations and therapies including activities of daily living (ADL) in an apartment setting, peer visitor program, adaptive sports and recreation, mobility evaluation and training, aquatic therapy, pain management, assistive devices, patient and family counseling, community reintegration, patient and family education, comprehensive medical management, referral to community services, driver evaluation, retraining, adaptive devices, stress management and emotional support, environment evaluation and modification, visual function evaluation and training, seating/positioning, other therapies related to specific disorders, bowel and bladder management, computerized neuromuscular retraining, functional electrical stimulation and gait evaluation and training.
There are 82 beds in the facility. Allied HealthCare employs more than 2,500 people in its hospitals, clinics, home health network and other services. At Allied Services Rehabilitation Hospital, a physiatrist – a doctor of rehabilitative medicine – leads a team of health care professionals to create individually designed programs that will foster spiritual, physical and emotional recovery.
